ThermaCAM™ B20

Especially developed for demanding, professional building inspections
Infrared thermography is a powerful and non-invasive technique to monitor and diagnose the condition of buildings. Common applications for infrared in the building industry include detecting areas susceptible to mold build-up, finding badly insulated areas, supervising new constructions, finding leaks in underground pipes, planning redevelopments and many others.

The results of using infrared are often considerable energy savings, minimization of repair damage and other cost savings resulting in a rapid return on investment of the infrared camera.

To meet the specific needs of the demanding building industry FLIR Systems has teamed up with professional and experienced building inspectors and has developed the ThermaCAM™ B20. The result is an infrared camera, which has all the features that are indispens-able when doing infrared building inspections, and the necessary software to make professional inspection reports.

Automatic dew point identification alarm - in the camera, on-site, no software needed
In the past, finding areas where there is a big potential for condensation has been a time consuming effort. Areas susceptible to condensation need to be discovered not only because they often indicate severe construction problems or building failures but also because they present a high danger for, unhealthy, mold build-up. To find these areas, the building inspector needed to carry out complicated calculations with specific software, behind his desk, on a PC. With the new FLIR Systems patented dewpoint identification alarm in the ThermaCAM B20 this can now be done on-site. The ThermaCAM B20 does the scientific dew point calculation in real-time. All parameters necessary, such as relative humidity and object temperature, to identify potential condensation areas, can be set in the camera, in the field. The result is a real-time infrared image with the dew point information, which indicates potential condensation problems. Critical areas, susceptible to condensation, are automatically colored with a transparent color alarm so that the building inspector sees the problem area and its structure at the same time. All the information is at hand on-site. This means that all parties involved in the inspection such as craftsmen, architects and construction managers can determine the severity of the problem. This will dramatically improve the accuracy and quality of the infrared inspection. It avoids misinterpretation, or even worse, not being able to calculate the dew point behind your desk because a part of the necessary information is missing.

Text and voice comments
ThermaCAM™ B20 includes the ability to store and edit voice comments and text notes in the field together with the thermal images. There is no need anymore to carry the infrared camera and a notepad at the same time. Record up to 30 seconds of digital voice data. The ThermaCAM B20 is equipped with a headset with intergrated microphone. The microphone is optimized to suppress interfering background noise, which is very common at a construction site. All recordings are saved together with the infrared image. Also text fields can be stored with the image. Adding text comments in the field saves time and ensures report accuracy. With one click on a button you can attach all related data such as floor level, compass point, wind speed, wall material and thickness, ... All these data are stored inside the image file and can be automatically downloaded into the ThermaCAM Reporter™ software to create professional building inspection reports.

Sound and color alarms
The building inspector can set a maximum temperature value in the camera. If the ThermaCAM B20 is pointed to a part of a building and this temperature is surpassed, the camera will automatically produce an audible alarm and all parts of the image, where this temperature is exceeded, will be highlighted. A colour alarm immediately draws the users attention to critical areas. The area of concern is covered by a transparent colour allowing for further interpretation of the scene. Inspecting huge areas might be time consuming and tiresome. Even with color alarms activated the eye can miss extremely small critical areas. Exactly these tiny spots are often the start for huge problems in the future. With the unique sound alarm function of the ThermaCAM B20 they will not be overlooked. The smallest critical spot in the infrared image will generate a beep so that you can have a closer look.

Automatic maximum temperature difference calculation
The ThermaCAM B20 can automatically calculate the temperature difference between the highest and lowest temperature points in the infrared image. Both these points are clearly identified in the infrared image and the value of this difference is shown inside the camera. The maximum temperature difference is often used to investigate an area of doubt. With the ThermaCAM B20 you will not only see the values on-site but they will be automatically saved with the infrared image. This means you will need to spend less time behind a desk analyzing images and you can spend more time doing valuable inspections.

Incorporated emissivity tables
To make correct temperature measurements you need to set the correct emissivity. Pre-defined values for often inspected materials in the building industry (concrete, wood, painted walls, wall-paper, cement, bricks, ...) are stored in the camera so that you can instantly choose the correct emissivity settings. A huge library of building materials is at hand and can, if necessary, be completed by the user.

Especially calibrated for the building industry
The ThermaCAM B20 measures temperatures in a range of -40°C up to +55°C. Ideal for building applications.

Image gallery
If you want to review images in the camera you can open the “image gallery”. This allows you to browse through thumbnail images and easily find and select the one you need.

Customize color palettes
Tailor your color palettes to your applications and upload them in the camera.

Ergonomic and rugged design perfect for indoor and outdoor applications
Designed to be used in harsh environments the ThermaCAM B20 is built to withstand shocks (25G) and vibration (2G). The camera is IP 54 rated which makes it dust- and watersplash proof. Designed for comfortable use several hours a day it weighs only 1.4 kg.

Extraordinary image quality
The smallest of temperature changes can be critical in a building environment. A state-of-the-art microbolometer detector allows you to see temperature differences as small as 0.08°C. It produces outstanding noise-free, crisp high-resolution images with the image speed of 50 digital images per seconds. This is the speed of professional video imaging equipement allowing you fatigue free good imaging and ickerfree inspections.
